What is the film’s Beginning – Middle – End?
The beginning is a short credit sequence with a clip of the argument and the important slap that starts the chain of events. The middle is the path of anger and revenge and we see the consequences of giving into anger. The third part is an alternate path of compassion where we are to forgive rather than fight.
What is the issue in the story and how is it resolved?
The issue in this story is the result of an argument between friends that results in violence and it is resolved through forgiveness rather than just retaliating as shown in the middle where we see the results of getting angry about it.
Titles
How do the font, transitions and colours of the titles say about the film and how do they complement the narrative?
The red text for the roles could represent the anger felt by the protagonist when he is first initially hit, so the white text could represent the purity of forgiveness. The phrase from the beginning titles of the short film “Every action has an equal and opposite reaction” refers to the two alternate paths shown in the movie, the angry one being the equal and the forgiving one being the opposite.
Sound
How is the soundtrack(s) used to complete the mood , tone and style of the film?
The beginning track being overheard in the beginning credits and the initial argument represents the lingering shock of being hit by a friend with its melancholic tones that brings a sad tone to the piece. In the angry path the music becomes faster and much harsher in tone to reflect the characters anger. In the path of forgiveness the music takes on a lighter tone and becomes increasingly upbeat to reflect the good he is doing.
What sound effects been added in afterwards – why and to what effect?
The effects that are added portray the actions in film, like the slap heard in the beginning, to show the important actions in each clip.
Camera
What is the range of camerawork used in the film? – list as many as you can spot and then analyse the effect of 3 different types
· Close up – To document the protagonists and peoples reactions.
· Tracking Shot – Follows him going down the stairs and his journey to find his friend, and moves faster depending on his mood.
· Middle Shot – Great way to show the focus of the shot without obscuring the background characters.
Editing
How does the editing impact the mood, tone and style of the film? Give three examples of edits used between frames and analyse impact
· Smooth Transitions – In the beginning nicely transition us into the story without the need of an overall long intro.
· There are quicker edits on the angry pathway to show a certain quickness and anger in the protagonist.

In what way does lighting impact the mood, tone & style of the film?
The lighting in the beginning is a lot darker than the rest of the lighting in the short film, probably to symbolise a low moment when his friend punches him.
How do props help to tell the story, especially as you can’t understand the language?
The rose has always symbolised love as a universal symbol so we can tell that couple is dating. Crushing the rose and ripping the paper implies disrespect for the people who own that piece of paper and the person giving the rose.

Plot
A young man has an argument with some friends that ends in a slap. What choices will he make and what consequences will it have on everyone else around him.
Review
The plot of the short seems quite simple enough but it’s just a jumping off point to experimentation, repeating the plot but with a slightly different reaction and ergo different consequences. I find it to be a bit preachy about love and kindness, and the power of forgiveness but its solid it works and is transitioned quite competently into refined imagery.
The premise, while having little bit of a different take, is not that all original and boasts familiarity to others work and playing off the common comedy trait of I what-i-call “fantasy revenge”. It remains focused for the entirety and never focuses on anything too long or too brief giving balance to the flow and pacing. The lighting could have more well-thought out but I think that was more of a financial issue since it’s not produced on a large budget but they do their best and come-up with something that feels nice and fresh in a world of action and violence. Titles work well, not being particularly original or innovative, and the camerawork is done well with lovely close-ups and some interesting tracking shots.
Overall the film seems to get a right balance of plot and visuals to create a unique and creative short about dealing with hard situations and what consequences it may lead to.
